Beyond the laughs and light competition, the Bee Hotels team building activity helps to strengthen collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.

Working typically in pairs, your colleagues coordinate tasks, share tools, and make design decisions together to not only build the hotel, but also to decorate it with the various resources available.

After a short introduction, teams receive all the tools and materials required to construct their own functional bee hotel. Suitable for a wide range of mixed groups, the build phase encourages your colleagues to brainstorm, delegate tasks, and adapt to small challenges as they turn a shared vision into an insect-friendly habitat. Once they have made the hotel, the mood turns playful: paints and craft supplies come out, and they personalise their designs. A friendly design showdown now begins—complete with jars of honey or potted flowers for the winners. And the best part? Everyone gets to take their new bee hotels home with them!

Throughout the session, a bee-themed QR-code quiz, with questions placed around the room, nudges learning in fun and bite-size bursts, while a tongue-in-cheek, bee-related playlist (chosen by the guests) keeps the energy upbeat!

The activity is also a meaningful introduction to environmental stewardship. By learning why bee populations are under pressure – from habitat loss to pesticides and climate change – your team will gain a grounded appreciation for biodiversity and how simple interventions can help.

Solitary bees don’t live in hives; they need small cavities and hollow stems to nest and thrive. Each completed hotel offers exactly that, becoming a tangible contribution to local ecosystems. When the session ends, teams take their hotels away for installation in office green spaces, on balconies, or at home, so the impact extends well beyond the activity. Guests report a sense of pride in having created something useful and attractive that supports nature; the finished hotels function as visible reminder of teamwork, shared purpose, and care for the environment.

Outcomes of the Bee Hotel team building event

Flexible by design, this activity works indoors or outdoors (when the weather is warm enough) and scales for groups of all sizes. It is accessible to first-time builders, inclusive for mixed abilities, and easily tailored with company colours, logos, or thematic twists.

For organisations, the benefits are twofold: teams enjoy a refreshing break from routine that strengthens interpersonal connections, and the company advances its CSR agenda with a credible, hands-on conservation effort. In a landscape where employees increasingly value purpose, Bee Hotels stands out as a memorable, value-aligned activity that blends fun with real-world impact. It delivers collaboration and creativity you can feel in the room.

The practical nature of the activity boosts confidence and cohesion: people see immediate progress, celebrate quick wins, and experience the satisfaction of overcoming minor hurdles side by side. That shared momentum naturally lifts morale and builds rapport across teams, departments, and seniority levels.
